Nice Things : August 2015

August 2, 2015

To kick off the month of August, here are some nice things I’ve been LOVING lately…

  • Hipster gnomes to decorate a terrarium or pot plant with. I mean, really. Could it get any more awesome-sauce? Well, yes, because there are also adorable woodland animals.
  • frankie magazine has a great step-by-step guide to eco-dying fabric. Think of all the good things you could make using leaves and flowers from your own garden!
  • Something from frankie’s brother magazine – Smith Journal. Not so long ago, before the introduction of the Internet, people used to take their queries to their local librarian. The librarians would write down some of the more interesting, and also hard to answer, questions. You can have a peek at a select few here. My favourite is the duck one.
  • Ah, Ballarat. Is it crazy that I want to move there after reading this one interview? Seriously, though, ideas like this make so much sense.
  • While I’m wishing for things, can Daniel Radcliffe move to Ballarat with me?? (Just kidding, Mr. birdandfox…)
  • The idea of living more frugally has been bouncing around my head lately and this post by 1MillionWomen has some very handy tips! Most of them are common-sense but I’m personally struggling with a few of the points. Making changes, even small ones, can be hard but I feel these are important ones to at least have a crack at.
  • Michelle from Hugo & Elsa talks about how she’s grown to love Melbourne over time and shares some beautiful photos of The White Room, a one bedroom/studio space available for rent in Fitzroy North.
  • This sweet tune that reminds me of those slow, hazy, happy days. Brought to my attention by Laura from Happy Pantry – thanks pal!

How are you all going? I hope July treated you well and that the month of August has lots of exciting things in store for you.

    1. Love your Nice Things lists, Jacquie. How cute is Daniel Radcliffe being a receptionist at Nylon?! Man, he’s such a good sport. Also enjoyed the article about Ballarat. No, I don’t think it’s wrong to want to move there after reading that one article 🙂 I am the Queen of Impulsively Wanting to Move Places. One time, I visited Yarraville in Melbourne’s west to see my singing teacher, and I came home and was like ‘Right, we are moving to Yarraville. It’s SO cool!’ Poor Steve is in constant fear of having to pack up and move because of some whim of mine. Love the Peaches song too. Have a great week (and rest of Sunday)! x

      1. Yeah, I do love me some Daniel Radcliffe. He just seems like such a genuinely nice guy.

Haha glad to know I’m not the only one then! I might take a weekend trip there sometime soon with Mathew…

Glad you enjoyed the song 🙂 Thanks, Isabel. I hope you have a great week too! x

    1. These things are very nice indeed! I had a good giggle at the hipster gnomes and librarian questions (particularly the squirrel one). I’m also definitely in the Daniel Radcliffe Appreciation Society, haha 🙂

      1. Haha yes, the squirrel one is a good ‘un! Yay for the Daniel Radcliffe Appreciation Society! DRAS unite! Haha. Glad you liked the post and thanks for commenting, Catherine 🙂

    1. OK, let’s get one thing straight. People STILL go to their local librarian/s for questions. It’s true! I’ve seen it. Thanks for including the song! I’ve bookmarked the other things to read later because right now I’m too busy procrastinating ;). Another excellent list, Jacquie.

      1. Haha oh I don’t doubt it, Laura! I should have phrased it better, soz. I wonder if librarians tend to resent or rejoice the introduction of Google. What say you?

No worries re the song. Thanks for sharing it! I’m glad you enjoyed the list – this one was one of my personal favourites to compile 😀

Enjoy the procrastination and good luck with whatever it is you’re trying to put off 😛 x
